Please stay after the Regional Minnesota Hospital Association meeting or join us for Improving the Health Status of Your Community panel moderated by Wendy Burt, Vice President of Communications and Public Relations for the Minnesota Hospital Association. Three panelists will tell the stories of how their organizations have made impacts on the health of their communities and how these programs could be replicated across the state. Toby Freier of New Ulm Medical Center, Rachelle Schultz of Winona Health and Stephen Waldhoff of Mayo Clinic Health System.


While the future of health reform is uncertain, the health needs of our communities and our mission to meet them are not. Long term success of our organizations and the future of our workforce will require us to think critically about the impact of community health.

Moderator:


Wendy Burt is the vice president of communications & public relations for the Minnesota Hospital Association, which represents 142 Minnesota hospitals and health systems. Burt has more than 25 years of public affairs, media relations, and strategic and crisis communications experience. At MHA, Burt oversees media relations, member communications, grassroots advocacy and a public relations campaign in support of Minnesota’s hospitals. Her health care experience prior to joining MHA included HealthPartners corporate communications and serving as director of public and community affairs for the Academic Health Center at the University of Minnesota. Burt has extensive public service experience, having served at all levels of state and federal government. Burt was a Presidential appointee in the Clinton Administration from 1993 to 1997. She has also worked as a public relations consultant.


 


Panelists:


Rachelle H. Schultz, Ed.D., president/CEO of Winona Health, has more than 25 years’ experience in healthcare management. In her years as an administrator, Schultz has a proven record of accomplishments including organizational restructuring that resulted in greater efficiencies; successful completion of building projects; development and implementation of strategic plans; physician recruitment, and new product line development. Service excellence, continuous performance improvement and team development are key components of her successful working style. Schultz graduated from Georgetown University with a bachelor of arts degree in Economics, completed her master’s in Healthcare Administration at the University of Minnesota, and received her doctorate in Interdisciplinary Leadership from Creighton University.  She was an invited member of the Minnesota State Quality Improvement Institute in 2008, served on the Institute for Clinical Systems Improvement (ICSI) board, was a board director for the Minnesota Hospital Association and is current chair of the American Hospital Association’s Small and Rural Council.  Schultz is also the board chair for the Minnesota Rural ACO, which was launched in 2016 and vice chair for the Performance Excellence Network (PEN).  She is also a member of the Rural Health Issues Group, a collaborative of several governmental associations focused on rural health issues.  Locally, Schultz is a founding board member of both Live Well Winona and the Minnesota Marine Art Museum (MMAM), and has been in active in a variety of community organizations.


 


Stephen Waldhoff: Dr. Stephen Waldhoff joined Mayo Clinic in 1984 as a hospital and clinic administrator.  He became Albert Lea Medical Center CAO in 1996 and assumed responsibility for Austin Medical Center as well in 2012, along with Southeast Minnesota Primary Care Service Line. 


Waldhoff earned a Doctoral Degree from Central Michigan University, along with Master’s and Bachelor’s Degrees from the University of Minnesota.


He is also a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives where he served in a variety of leadership capacities, including terms on the Board of Governors, Council of Regents, and ACHE-MN Chapter President.  Dr. Waldhoff served on a variety of community and state non-profit boards of directors.


Dr. Waldhoff and his wife Christi make their home in Albert Lea, Minnesota, where they enjoy sailing, golfing and equestrian sports.  They have two adult children, Amanda and Hillaree.
