Steve Nelson, MBA, MHSA was named chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement, a division of UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH), in March 2014.  Serving nearly one in five Medicare beneficiaries, UnitedHealthcare Medicare & Retirement is the largest business dedicated to the health and well-being needs of seniors and other Medicare beneficiaries. Prior to his current role, Steve served as chief executive officer of UnitedHealthcare’s Community & State business — an organization that delivers solutions to 25 state governments and over 4 million individuals, including more than 2 million children.

James A. Hamilton founded the University of Minnesota’s Degree in Hospital Administration in 1946 and pioneered creative problem solving as a management tool. Known for his 14-Step Method of Problem Solving, his credo was learning by doing. His motto: “never assume”. During his long career, Hamilton headed organizations such as the American Hospital Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. Hamilton was elected to the Healthcare Hall of Fame in 1998.
