Goal: To provide an overview and content for a macro view of factors influencing healthcare in the U.S. from a CXO administrator perspective, including a focus on the following areas:

  • Mark Dixon will present on ACA/health reform/impact on IDN C-suites, and understanding perspectives and implication for the C-suite of Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN’s) and their hospital. 


 



  • David Moen will provide an overview of current and emerging population healthcare delivery models.

Biographies of Participants


 


David W. Moen, MD Principal Consultant, MoenMD Consulting


 


Dr. Moen has spent his career providing thought leadership to teams achieving nationally-recognized and market-changing Triple Aim results for high risk patients in hospital, clinic, and community settings.  He is Principal at Moen MD Consulting and has served as a strategic advisor to health system, physician network, health plan, venture capital, and Fortune 500 clients.  He worked with United Health Group’s Venture (UHGV) Capital Group to attain funding to start TeamMD, a company which provides integrated primary care, nursing, and social services to vulnerable adults.  He was named Board Chairman in September, 2015.  In addition to that role he serves as Lead Physician Advisor to UHG Ventures Fund, Executive Chairman of Orthology, Chief Medical Officer and Co-founder of Occtegrity, and Chief Medical Officer of Healthy Interactions based in Chicago, IL.


 


Dr. Moen worked within the Fairview Health System in Minneapolis for 25 years as an emergency physician and physician executive.  During his last 5 years at Fairview he served as Medical Director of Innovation and President and CEO of the Fairview Health Network (FHN).  In both roles he engaged clinicians in creating better care models and worked to align payment incentives among key partners to achieve the Triple Aim.  His team led development of the Patient-Centered Medical Home in over 50 primary care clinics and designed and implemented population health infrastructure to support Fairview’s employed and partnering independent physicians in new risk-based contracts.  In 2011, FHN was named a Pioneer ACO by Medicare.  His teams’ accomplishments during his tenure at Fairview also include: 



  • 3 health plan innovation awards for improving outcomes and lowering cost for high risk patient populations. 

  • National recognition for top outcomes for patients with acute myocardial infarction, congestive heart failure, and pneumonia among Medicare beneficiaries. 

  • Established FHN Employer Learning Collaborative with employee benefit leaders from Target, 3M, State of Minnesota, U of MN, Bloomington School System, and Knutson Construction 

  • Development of the Fairview Leadership Academy which equipped over 250 physicians and health system executives to better lead complex system change over 5 years. 


 


Dr. Moen helps his clients understand current market trends, relevant stakeholder capabilities, and how to more effectively and creatively work across typical boundaries to close today’s care delivery and market gaps with aligned partners.

 MARK D. DIXON

Current Responsibilities:


MARK D. DIXON, R.Ph M.H.A., FACHE leads the Mark Dixon Group, LLC which provides medical suppliers and integrated delivery networks (IDNs) consultative assistance in successfully navigating the changes in healthcare.  He specializes in providing C-suite level services to:



  • Increase medical supplier relevancy/performance in an era of health reform and value creation   Implement an Accountable Care Organization (ACO) strategy 

  • Create durable physician clinical integration network strategies

  • Develop and implement improved IDN triple aim results.


 


He speaks regularly at national meetings to bring the voice of the IDN C-suite to a wide variety of organizations and professional associations. 


 


Prior Experience:


Mr. Dixon brings more than 30 years of leadership experience in the health care industry with a proven record of results in developing and sustaining market-leading organizations.   Most recently, he was the South Region President for Fairview Health Services in Minneapolis, Minnesota from 2008 – 2011.  Fairview Health Services is a $2.9 billion integrated delivery system with eight hospitals and over 500 employed physicians.  Mr. Dixon had responsibility for Fairview Ridges and Southdale Hospitals as well as the Cardiovascular and Oncology Programs System-wide.  He provided leadership for numerous strategic and operational improvement initiatives including the successful launch of an ACO strategy.   


Prior to joining Fairview, Mr. Dixon was President/CEO of Community Hospitals of Indiana, part of the Community Health Network located in Indianapolis, Indiana.  He provided executive leadership and direction for all aspects of Community Hospitals of Indiana, Inc., which includes three community hospitals and Community Home Health Services. He was with Community Health Network for over five years.   Prior to that role, Mr. Dixon served as CEO for Abbott Northwestern Hospital of the Allina Health System and was with Abbott Northwestern Hospital for 17 years.  


 


Education, Awards and Professional Affiliations: 


Dixon is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He has served as a board member on numerous non-profit and for-profit boards.  Dixon earned his bachelor’s degree in pharmacy and his master’s degree in hospital administration from the University of Minnesota.
