Kalli Matsuhashi and Jack Militello will discuss current trends and areas of concern in dealing with abrasive leadership and what a health care organization can do to correct this issue.

This presentation will focus on helping participants understand the serious impact of abrasive leaders in healthcare through the workplace suffering and negative impact on patient care that it can cause. It will help participants understand what drives these bullying behaviors and what can be done about them. The presenter will provide an in-depth look at a research-driven and empirically-supported approach to helping the abrasive leader change his/her behaviors. She will also explain HR’s critical role in keeping the work environment respectful and why putting the burden on subordinates to “manage up” is likely to fail.   

About the Speakers

Kalli Matsuhashi is the owner of Executive Confidante. She is an executive coach and family business advisor, specializing in helping organizations address the behaviors of abrasive leaders.  She also provides conflict coaching, coaching with individuals and teams to help them resolve interpersonal conflicts at work. Kalli has a background in management consulting and organizational development. She received her master’s in psychology from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, and is a licensed psychologist and licensed professional clinical counselor. She is also a qualified mediator in the state of Minnesota.

Jack Militello, Ph.D. is the director and faculty member of the Health Care and Executive UST MBA programs at the Opus College of Business at the University of St. Thomas.  His research specialties include: health care sector management, leadership development and its link to strategic management, and strategic planning.
